A day after Mersal teaser, Madras HC orders interim stay on Vijay's film

The Madras High Court on Friday ordered an interim stay on Ilayathalapathy Vijay-starrer Mersal.

A day after the release of the much-awaited teaser of Mersal, the Madras High Court has ordered an interim stay on the film on Friday. According to a report in a regional channel, the court has asked the makers to not advertise the film with its title 'Mersal' until further notice.
Rajendran, a petitioner, has filed an affidavit in Chennai seeking an interim stay on the film Mersal after the production house, Sri Thenandal Films, trademarked the title Mersal without proper registration. Taking the prosecution's argument, the Madras High Court has ordered an interim stay on the film's promotion till October 3.
While this news comes as a shocker for many, it isn't surprising for Vijay fans. In the past, several Vijay films including Thuppakki, Kaththi and Thalaiva, have faced several hurdles before release.
Mersal teaser was unanimously appreciated by fans and clocked more than 10 million views on YouTube. The teaser that created waves on the internet, has now become the most liked teaser in the world, surpassing Ajith's Vivegam.
The highlight of Mersal is its huge star cast including Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Nithya Menen, SJ Suryah and Sathyaraj. Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad has written the screenplay for the film.
Made on a lavish budget of over Rs 100 crore, Mersal is produced by Sri Thenandal Films. Tipped to be a commercial entertainer, Mersal is all set to hit the theatres on Diwali this year.
